Custom Orthoses

What are Orthoses?

Orthoses are inserts for your shoes that are intended to correct an abnormal, or irregular, walking pattern that may be causing discomfort or sores on your feet.  Orthoses are prescribed by doctors with the intent to help correct these irregularities in order to make standing and walking more comfortable.

          •  Over pronation (Flat feet)
          •  Metatarsalgia

Soft orthoses  (HCPC code: A5513- diabetic custom molded inserts)

Soft Orthotics
This accommodative orthosis is designed to absorb shock, increase balance and provide pressure relief for uncomfortable or sore spots.  This type of orthotic is often prescribed by a podiatrist for patients with diabetes.  A “total contact orthosis” is made from a model of your foot and can be a great aid in reducing calluses or even healing ulcerated areas.

Semi-rigid orthotics (HCPC code: L3030- custom molded orthoses)

This semi-functional foot orthosis is generally made using a firm material, such as cork or a high-density EVA and then covered with a variety of shock absorbing materials.  Their purpose is to help to guide the feet through their proper functions, allowing the muscles and tendons to work more efficiently.

Other factors that determine what type of orthosis is best for you:

    • Doctors prescriptions
    • Diagnosis
    • Health problems, such as diabetes, arthritis, etc.
    • Patient’s age and weight
    • Type of footwear the orthotics will be placed in
    • Type of activities the orthotics will be used for
